Providers and Services: Adult Day

Reducing Transportation Costs for Adult Day Services
Posted: Aug. 1, 2008
The cost of fueling vehicles used for transporting participants for Adult Day Services is a major concern since reimbursement has not increased at the same rate as rising fuel costs. About 75% of Adult Day Services providers operate their own transportation. Among these providers, on average they transport 2/3 of their participants, and 50% of their participants would not attend adult day services, if transportation was not available.

Clarification on Congregate Meals in an Adult Day Program
Posted: July 29, 2008
Non-Medicaid participants in adult day programs can receive congregate meals if the State Unit on Aging and the State Medicaid Office allow Title III congregate meals to be served in an adult day program. Also, if the definition of the Medicaid adult day service in the state excludes meals, congregate meals can be served. However, anyone aged sixty or older in the community would also be allowed to have a meal in the adult day center. The USDA also has a means tested meal program that can be used in adult day centers.

Marketing Adult Day Services to Physicians
Posted: May 13, 2008
It can be difficult to increase referrals from physicians. Many times they are not aware of what services are available in Adult Day Services, and how these services benefit their patients, as well as the family caregivers. Make the referral process user friendly by providing them with a referral pad that has contact information on your program. For a sample referral slip
