Louisiana: Department of Health and Hospitals Submits 1115 Medicaid Waiver Proposal

The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals is seeking approval from the Legislature to submit a proposal for a section 1115 Medicaid waiver to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

The state claims that the proposal would establish a medical home system for Medicaid beneficiaries, including older adults. However, there are serious questions about whether the design of the Department's plan is appropriate or even possible, because Louisiana lacks the type of managed care organizations on which the plan primarily depends.

This was a very interesting article. My partner and I are both Registered Nurses and have been following legislation about this issue, caring for our aging population. We believe we have a solution for Louisiana and hopefully Nationally once we are recognized. We are looking forward to paving the way for a healthier state and nation.
