We are delighted that the Connecticut General Assembly has passed Bill 665, an Act Concerning Continuing Care Facilities and Continuing Care at Home. This new legislation is effective October 1, 2008.

ACTS Retirement-Life Communities has signed a purchase agreement on a 48-acre land parcel located near the intersection of Fullwood Lane and South Trade Street in Matthews, North Carolina. ACTS plans to add approximately 350 independent living apartments and single family homes with additional numbers of assisted living and skilled care suites. The expansion is designed to complement an existing ACTS community adjacent to the property, Plantation Estates, which is home to approximately 560 retirees and is currently undergoing a $9 million renovation and expansion of its own by adding additional independent living apartments and a 16,000-square-foot wellness center with an indoor pool.

Village Shalom named its 2007 Employee of the Year and Rookie of the Year at a recent employee recognition ceremony. Before the presentation of the awards, President and CEO Matt Lewis commended all staff members for their extraordinary dedication to serving Village Shalom’s residents. Dennis Nealey was named Employee of the Year. A Vietnam veteran, former paramedic and retired Mission Hills/Prairie Village police officer, he joined the Village Shalom staff four years ago as a driver. Tim McFarland received the Rookie of the Year award, which is presented to a Village Shalom employee who joined the staff within the last year. He has worked in the Facilities Maintenance department since May 2007. Prior to joining the Village Shalom staff, McFarland spent 18 years as a firefighter and paramedic in Tucson, Arizona.

July 12, 2007 marked the 25th anniversary of service for Mr. Charles E. “Chuck” Cable, President and Chief Executive Officer at Hillcrest, a retirement community in La Verne, CA. A native of Tacoma, Washington, Mr. Cable came to Hillcrest with several years of hospital administration experience. Chuck graduated from the University of La Verne with a B.A. degree in business and economics and a Master of Public Health Degree in Hospital Administration from UCLA.
