AAHSA Recruits Dr. Mike Magee to Serve as Senior Fellow in Health Policy

Washington, D.C. – The American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) recently recruited Mike Magee, MD, veteran health care leader, author and host of Health Commentary with Dr. Mike Magee, to serve as a Senior Fellow in Health Policy for the Center of Aging Services Technologies (CAST)

Dr. Magee is a passionate advocate for healthy aging in America and technology’s role in achieving that goal. He is author of The New Face of Aging and previously served as the national spokesperson for the Senior Olympics. He also appeared in CAST’s “Imagine: The Future of Aging” vision video, presented at CAST’s Interoperability Summit and has spoken at AAHSA’s Annual Meeting and Future of Aging Services Conference. In his latest book, Home-Centered Health Care, Dr. Magee articulates a new paradigm that integrates physician-caregiver partnerships and health information technology for a more efficient and preventive healthcare system. In his new role, Magee will continue to engage in dialogue with physicians and other health professionals to increase their support of technology’s role in health care.

As host of Health Commentary with Dr. Mike Magee (www.healthcommentary.org), Dr. Magee produces a weekly online program devoted to health care issues. He formerly hosted the popular online program Health Politics.

He is a former Senior Fellow in the Humanities to the World Medical Association and most recently served as director of the Pfizer Medical Humanities Initiative. He is a former David Rockefeller Fellow, Professor of Surgery at Jefferson Medical College, and a Master Scholar at New York University School of Medicine.

Dr. Magee attended medical school in Syracuse, NY, and did his surgical residency at the University of North Carolina. He spent 13 years as a country doctor in rural New England before assuming his previous academic and leadership posts.

"Dr. Mike Magee is one of the most insightful prophets on health care in America." AAHSA President & CEO Larry Minnix said. "I am confident that his leadership and expertise will help our members maximize technology’s potential in their work for older adults."
